CURRENT MUSICAL PROJECTS (Live & IN STUDIO)
While making a major transition in my own album project....... I have been enjoying working on others albums and tracks. I am singing background vocals on several tracks for Jim Peterik's new album (organic rock) which will be coming out by the end of this year. This is going to be a "must have" album. I know right now that it will be one of my favorites.
I have been involved in the the Jeff Lieberman songwriter/guitarist/singer) project singing backgrounds on several tracks. Jeff's music is very bluesy R&B with gospel flavoring. I have so much fun on his session's!
Scott May and Jim Peterik both of the "Ides of March" have been writing tunes to submit to Meatloaf for his upcoming album. I provided background vocals on "Ace and Eight's" and "Two Wheel Rescue". I heard today that both songs made it to the next level. Great news!
I sing backing vocals for Ray Betz (pianist/singer) upcoming rock album. Ray has a distint quality to his voice. His voice is so clear and he has fantastic pitch. I see great things happening for him.
Outside the studio, I am performing live unplugged styled shows with guitarist /singer Tom Logan. Tom is extreamly versitile and can play all the genres equally well. We can jump from jazz, to rock to motown to funk...you name it. I enjoy performing with him.
I performed lead vocals with the Mark Olen Orchestra yesterday in Chicago. It was a treat to work with musicians I hadn't worked with before, but had heard of at one time or another. It is amazing how many "circles" of musicians there are in this town. This was a very talented crew with attitudes you wish you could bottle and take home with you....very professional, and great at their craft. This was the line up: Mark Olen/trumpet, Tom Logan /Guitar, Jeff Stitely/Drums, Nick Bisesi /Sax and Flute, keyboarding and bassist coming soon.
AUGUST 26th, 05
DEVO In DA House ........the House of Blues Chicago that is. It had been along time since I had seen my hollywood buds....or do they prefer spuds? My writing partner Van Coppock ran the house sound and buddy, drummer Neil Taylor worked the monitor mixes. The sound was kickin and Devo was over the top fabulous. They don't slow down and get better with age! The after show party was also at the House of Blues...standing room only. It was great to see the gang again.
AUGUST 16th, 05
POP STAR BOOT CAMP Singer / songwriter Kevin Chalfant invited me and Jim Peterik to the Pop Star Boot Camp Seminar in Grand Ridge, IL., asking us to talk to teens about songwriting and breaking into the music biz. It was refreshing to meet so many young people with big ambitions and so much potential. Very cool seminar Kevin!
JULY 24th, 05
Opening for the WGN Funny Man (Steve Cochran) - It was a jazz extravaganza, it was a stomp your feet, hold you belly, clap your hands and lose your breath from laughting kind of night. The Joe Hurt Trio and I opened for three excellent comedians Steve Cochran of WGN daytime radio, Tim Clue and Rocky Laport. We began the comedians set by performing high energy jazz off our new CD "The In Crowd" at the College of Dupage which had a full house. Thanks to Steve, Tim and Rocky ...you were wonderful to us and too funny for your own good!
JULY 05
EUROTIQUA is the name of the "sensual" french recording project I have been working on with Greg Allen of Spank Music and Joe Hurt. It started out months back when Joe showed me some musical ideas he had sequenced. I always knew he was a great pianist/ performer but I was unfamiliar with his programming and arranging. I was so inspired by what I heard, Joe and I began writing together.
The erotic nature of the music sequences lead to the idea of me singing in french which I did phenetically since I don't speak a lick of french. This was a welcome challenge. It was my aunt Adele, Uncle Kirk, my mother and a friend of Joe's who helped translate the english lyric to french and made sure I was saying the phrases correctly.
I was thrilled when I learned Greg Allen wanted to get involved with the project. He has a reputation for being among the best vocal producers in town. I can see why! I loved the way he produced my vocal! Not only was he one of the collaberators for EUROTIQUA, he produced and mixed the tracks along with Rick Fritz. Outstanding mixes....I was truely knocked out by the final tracks. The quality incredible!
JULY 05
"Tuesday night jam session" is what I like to call it. On Tueday nights I have been getting together with some of my very talented friends, Kurt Bonomo/Guitar, Robb Frank/Bass and Terry Branam/Drums. We are gearing up for live shows. I am lucky to have such great friends
April 27th. 05
AFTERNOON AT HINGE STUDIOS I had the pleasure of recording with some of Chicago's finest at Hinge Recording Studios (best piano in town) - singing on the Joe Hurt Jazz Trio CD. I love working with this group: Joe Hurt on piano, Ken Haebich on stand up bass and legendary drummer Redd Holt of Ramsey Lewis Trio fame. This going to be an outstanding CD. The energy and chemistry of the combo is very special.
OSHKOSH CONCERT MAY 7th, 05 Thanks to all of you who supported the Oshkosh WI concert. What a night to remember! Thanks to Jim Peterik who always gives 110%! It is an honor to make music with this great talent. Thanks to Scott May (Ides of March), we were lucky to have you with us. You made a difference on and off stage. My buddy Jeff Boyle charmed um that night singing "Lisa and Me" and "Dog Named Zero". The likeable Chuck Somar (Ides of March) kept us in line keeping the beat on percussion . Kevin Chalfant (The Storm) made a special guest appearance, joining us on stage singing a killer duet version of "I Can't Hold Back" with Toby.
